A fascinating (and also disheartening) report from Mashable provides some insights into the current state of sex education…in the information age!

Porn is Not Sex Education

Over half of people surveyed learned about sex from porn or from their partners and a full 33% from “trial and error.”

According to John Dewey, the great American educator – experience can be a great teacher – unless it is simply a repeat of the same trial and error over and over again.

Unless this haphazard attempt to learn about sex is informed by a strong academic mind – and some high quality guidance there is a good chance the experimenter does not have a better outcome the next time around.

Sexual Violence

How is it possible that half of the people surveyed in another study had no experience with consent? That means their sexual experiences may or may not have been consensual…This is not a surprise as much of pornography does not depict this part of a sexual encounter.

However, this is a problem! And a big part of why this website exists.

Sexual ignorance leads to sexual violence. And there is no obvious alternative for people who are drawn to sex without the resources and education to experience its full potential.
